Animal abuse and neglect happens here, too

An editorial was written by SFA member and Spay Mania veteran, John Riley.  It appeared in the Opinion section of the Greenville News recently. John lives in Simpsonville and teaches Spanish at the Brashier campus of Greenville Tech. He also is a volunteer with Concerned Citizens for Animals.

An SFA Member recently donated Humane Education books to the Greenville County School System. With titles like Are You Ready for Me?, Buddy Unchained and Max Talks to Me!, you will want to sit and read them with your child.

According to the Ryan Newman Foundation, animal welfare advocate, every year in the United States an estimated 5 million animals lose their lives in shelters because they are homeless! That is one pet life lost every 6.5 seconds. The pet overpopulation epidemic is so staggering that for every one born in the United States to have a home, each and every human being would have to own 6 dogs and 9 cats. So, in actuality a family of four, 2 parents and 2 small children, would have to own 24 dogs and 36 cats. I

It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill and dispose of homeless animals.
